Marine
Ships, whether commercial, pleasure or military, are subject to specific risks associated with flammable products, confined spaces and sailing conditions. Backed by its fire safety expertise in France, Luxembourg and overseas, GS Environnement offers you tailor-made solutions to guarantee safety on board your ships and protect your crews.
Fire protection in the Marine sector
Fire protection on a ship is no easy task. Between the different products that can be transported, the confined spaces on board, the presence of the crew and the complex evacuation process when at sea, it is essential to be equipped with a suitable and effective fire-fighting system.
We can support you in this mission to ensure the safety of your teams on board.
The challenges of fire protection on ships
Ships face particular fire risks. You need to be fully aware of this to equip them with the right fire protection systems.
Presence of flammable products
A number of products with a high risk of ignition, such as fuels, lubricants, paints and chemicals, are found on marine craft. The presence of these flammable products increases the risk of fire spreading rapidly if a fire breaks out. It is essential to stop the fire as quickly as possible to limit the damage.
Confined spaces on board ship
There are several confined spaces on board a ship that are difficult to access. The engine room, holds and tanks are all places that absolutely must be protected against the risk of fire.
Sailing conditions at sea
Being on the water is not the same as being on land. The movements of the ship, the vibrations caused by navigation, the humidity and salinity of the environment are all factors to be taken into account in your fire protection strategy.
Difficult evacuation at sea
If a fire breaks out on the open sea, it will be difficult to evacuate the crew and passengers on board.
These risks can have dramatic consequences, endangering human lives, causing major material damage that could even lead to the destruction of the vessel, and presenting a risk of pollution of the marine environment.
Example of application
Let's take the example of a merchant ship carrying flammable products. The holds where these products are stored are particularly at risk. The installation of a specific fire detection system coupled with a Stat-X condensed aerosol extinguishing system is therefore necessary. This system rapidly detects the start of a fire by spreading an aerosol in the hold, depriving the fire of oxygen and extinguishing it.
